Designed for versatility, the L99MH98 can drive four external full bridges, eight half bridges, or single high-side/low-side configurations. It is ideal for applications such as powered seats, sunroofs, window lifts, sliding doors, and trunk/tailgate mechanisms. Additionally, the driver can control resistive loads like heaters and includes an internal charge pump for managing a reverse-battery protection MOSFET.
The L99MH98 supports both logic-level and standard-level MOSFETs, with an extended gate current capability of up to 120mA, allowing for the driving of a large number of external MOSFETs. Its three-stage gate control minimizes electromagnetic emissions by applying the gate signal in a controlled manner.
One of the standout features of the L99MH98 is its ability to provide each MOSFET’s drain-source voltage (VDS) to an analog-digital converter (ADC). This is achieved through an ST-patented indirect current measurement technique, which calculates the drain current by combining the measured VDS with predicted RDS(on) values based on sensed temperature. The system is factory calibrated to determine nominal RDS(on) values, enabling accurate predictions using resistance-versus-temperature curves.
Additionally, the programmable multi-failsafe function enhances reliability by allowing the individual shutdown of bridges in case of faults, ensuring that unaffected bridges can continue operating. This feature detects various fault conditions, including supply overvoltage, high-side over/undervoltage, thermal warnings, and charge-pump failures. Depending on the fault type, it selectively disables functions such as diagnostics, watchdog, and the charge pump.
The L99MH98 is AEC-Q100 qualified and complies with ISO 26262 standards for functional safety applications up to safety integrity level (ASIL) B
